Student Discipline & Expulsion Policy

Dublin Centre of Education (DCE) is committed to maintaining a respectful, safe, and productive learning environment for all students.

All students are expected to comply with the school’s Code of Conduct, as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Disciplinary grounds

Disciplinary action may be taken in cases of:

  • Persistent failure to meet attendance requirements (see Attendance & Participation Policy)
  • Disruptive or inappropriate behaviour
  • Breach of school rules or code of conduct
  • Bullying or harassment (including physical, verbal, or online)
  • Submission of fraudulent documentation (e.g. medical certificates)
  • Tampering with attendance records
  • Any behaviour that threatens the safety or wellbeing of students or staff

Disciplinary process

Where a breach of school rules occurs, the following staged disciplinary process will apply:

  • Step 1: Verbal warning issued by the Director of Studies. This will be recorded in the student’s file and confirmed in writing.
  • Step 2: Written warning issued to the student
  • Step 3: Final written warning issued to the student

Students are expected to take immediate action to address the issue at each stage.

Expulsion

A student may be expelled from the school where:

  • there is failure to improve following the final warning, or
  • the seriousness of the offence justifies immediate action

In cases of expulsion:

  • No refund of tuition or registration fees will be provided
  • The school may notify the Irish Immigration Service Delivery (ISD), where applicable

In serious cases, including threats to health and safety, attendance fraud, or gross misconduct, the school reserves the right to suspend or expel a student immediately without following the staged warning process.

Damage & liability

Students are responsible for any damage caused to school property and must cover the associated costs.

Disputes

Students are expected to raise any concerns or complaints directly with the school in a timely manner.

Complaints must be reported while the student is in Ireland and before being raised publicly.

Failure to follow the school’s complaints procedures may result in the matter not being considered.

Any legal disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Republic of Ireland.
